expressive arts

Expressive arts therapy is a multimodal approach encompassing many creative forms and materials, honoring the natural language of the growing child. Each modality provides your child with healing on a much deeper level than traditional talk therapy can provide.

I design age appropriate interventions and solutions using expressive arts in combination with play therapy and psychotherapy, creating a safe space to work with your child to manage behaviors, strengthen self-esteem, and most importantly, build resiliency.

Expressive arts therapy offers powerful holistic approaches that integrate the mind, body, and spirit. These include:

  • ART THERAPY incorporates paint, collage, intuitive drawing, clay and mask making.
  • STORYTELLING THERAPY allows the child to explore their emotional and relational experiences with words, symbols and metaphors. Storytelling tools include story prompt cards, puppets and toys.
  • MUSIC THERAPY offers instruments helping the child to find their voice through music making.
  • MOVEMENT THERAPY incorporates forms of embodied exploration and inner rhythms.
  • POETRY THERAPY offers a technique where experiences and feelings are explored through words and poem-making.
  • BIBLIOTHERAPY uses children's literature to address specific issues, offering therapeutic support.
